How can I start a bankruptcy case as soon as possible?

If you need to start a bankruptcy case as soon as possible, you may fill out a “skeleton form.” Skeleton filing is when you fill out only the Voluntary Petition which is basically an overview of your debts and assets. It provides the basic information for the court to begin the bankruptcy case. By filing a skeleton form, you will be allowed fifteen extra days after filing the petition to get the rest of your paperwork in. If you do not file it within this time period, your bankruptcy case will be dismissed.

Skeleton filing is really only necessary for emergency bankruptcy situations. For example, if you need to stop a foreclosure and you do not have time to fill out all the appropriate forms, then this approach may be appropriate for you.
