Will medical debt owed to the hospital affect my credit?

Yes, most hospitals will turn debt owed to them over to collection agencies. These agencies may report the debt to credit reporting agencies. If this occurs, your credit score will likely suffer. While bankruptcy may be one way to wipe out your debt, it may not be the right choice for someone who owes a manageable amount. If one is not high in debt, then they may just want to work out a payment plan. One way to pay your debt back and save your credit score is by contacting the hospitals billing department and working out some sort of payment plan with them in order to pay back what you owe. However, if you are overwhelmed with medical bills, bankruptcy may be the best solution for you.
